چکیده

Results are presented on the generation of high harmonics through the scattering of relativistic electrons from high-intensity laser light. The characteristic signatures of this process are found to be the emission of evenorder harmonics, linear dependence on the electron density, significant amount of harmonics with circular polarization, and small spatial extent of the source. The harmonics are emitted as a forward-directed beam with a divergence of 2°–3°. The measured spatial profile of the harmonics is in excellent agreement with calculations that assume that relativistic electrons play a significant part in the scattering process. © 2003 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 190.4160, 320.7120.

One of the interesting Laser-Plasma phenomena, when the laser power is high and ultra intense, is the generation of large amplitude plasma waves (Wakefield) and electron acceleration. An intense electromagnetic laser pulse can create plasma oscillations through the action of the nonlinear pondermotive force. electrons trapped in the wake can be accelerated to high energies, more than 1 TW. Of t...

Relativistic laser harmonic generation from plasmas with density ripple

A high intensity laser obliquely incident on an underdense plasma with density ripple produces resonant second and third-harmonic radiation in the reflected component. The highest efficiency of harmonic generation occurs when the pump laser is incident at critical angle and the angle between ripple wave vector q and the surface normal has a specific value / — /m, at which phase-matching conditi...

Second harmonic generation and its interaction with relativistic plasma waves driven by forward Raman instability in underdense plasmas

High conversion efficiency ~0.1%! into second harmonic light generated in the interaction of a short-pulse intense laser with underdense plasma has been observed. In this experiment the plasma is created by optical field ionization of hydrogen or helium gas. Second harmonic spectra observed in the forward direction show Stokes and anti-Stokes satellites. This is due to the interaction of the se...

High-Order Harmonic Generation from Laser Ablation of Various Surfaces

The high-order harmonic generation in laser-produced plasma plumes can be useful for producing an efficient source of short-wavelength ultra-short pulses for various applications and studies of the properties of harmonic emitters. The laser ablation induced high-order harmonic generation spectroscopy is a newmethod for the studies of material science. We discuss the realization of new ideas, wh...

Intense circularly polarized attosecond pulse generation from relativistic laser plasmas using few-cycle laser pulses.

We have investigated the polarization of attosecond light pulses generated from relativistic few-cycle laser pulse interaction with the surface of overdense plasmas using particle-in-cell simulation. Under suitable conditions, a desired polarization state of the generated attosecond pulse can be achieved by controlling the polarization of the incident laser. In particular, an elliptically polar...
